Last weekend saw a landmark moment for community football in North Glasgow as the first-ever Ashfield & Athena Football Festival: Beyond the Game lit up Glasgow Club Milton with energy, inclusion, and unforgettable memories.

Across two action-packed days, more than 800 young players — boys and girls aged 8 to 15 — took part in a festival of football supported by over 150 coaches and volunteers from across the Central Belt. Despite sunshine, rain, and even thunder, the spirit on and off the pitch never wavered.

For Athena Glasgow, Sunday’s girls’ tournament was especially powerful.

“We’re absolutely BUZZING after hosting our very first football festival and tournament — and what a success it was,” said the Athena team. “From the first whistle to the final medal, the energy, passion, and community spirit was incredible. We’re proud to keep pushing forward and creating real impact in the girls’ game and our local community.”

Athena Glasgow Women & Girls Football Academy, a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SC053419), continues to lead the way in building opportunities for girls in a part of Glasgow ranked among the most deprived in Scotland. Working closely with Ashfield FC, the festival marked a joint commitment to growing the game and strengthening community pride in North Glasgow.

Clubs travelled from across the West, East and Central regions to take part, and every participant received a medal — because every player matters. A heartfelt thanks goes to the amazing staff at Glasgow Club Milton, and to Allied Vehicles Group and Bill Gosling Outsourcing for sponsoring the event and believing in the power of football.

We also send our thoughts and best wishes to the young Hillwood FC player who sustained an injury. Thank you to the on-site doctor and first aiders for your quick and professional response.

This festival wasn’t just about football — it was about inclusion, collaboration, and building a brighter future through grassroots sport.

Here’s to many more festivals, tournaments, and unforgettable moments. We’re only getting started.
